Common mistakes
- Assuming a fixed calendar date. Black Friday is defined by a weekday rule, not a fixed day of the month, so its date shifts every year.
- Forgetting it depends on Thanksgiving. Since Black Friday is always the day after Thanksgiving (the 4th Thursday of November), the two dates always move together.
- Missing early sales. Many retailers extend "Black Friday" deals across the whole preceding week — don't wait until the exact day if you want the earliest access.
