What this calculator does
Warranty coverage runs for a fixed length of time from your purchase date, typically measured in months or years. This calculator adds that length to your purchase date so you know exactly when coverage ends and can plan any repairs or claims before it's too late.
Worked example
You buy a laptop on May 20, 2025 with a 2-year manufacturer warranty. Adding 2 years gives an expiry date of May 20, 2027 — any hardware faults after that date are outside the standard warranty.
Common mistakes
- Confusing purchase date with delivery date. Warranty periods almost always run from the purchase or invoice date, which can be days or weeks before delivery for made-to-order items.
- Stacking warranties incorrectly. An extended warranty typically starts when the manufacturer warranty ends, not from the original purchase date — calculate each segment separately.
- Losing proof of purchase. Without a dated receipt, a warranty claim can be denied even if the calculated expiry date hasn't passed.
