What this calculator does
Many countries won't let you enter unless your passport remains valid for a minimum period — commonly 6 months — beyond your travel date. This tool checks whether your passport's remaining validity meets that buffer for your planned trip.
Worked example
A passport expiring December 1, 2026, checked against a travel date ofSeptember 2, 2026 with a 6-month requirement, only has about 2 months of remaining validity beyond the travel date — falling short of a typical 6-month rule.
Common mistakes
- Checking validity against today instead of the travel date. The relevant comparison is between your passport's expiry and your entry or return date, not the date you're checking.
- Assuming every country uses the same rule. Requirements range from "valid for your stay only" to 6 months beyond departure — always confirm with the specific destination, and check yourvisa's own expiry date separately if one is required.
- Renewing too close to departure. Passport processing times can take weeks — don't wait until a trip is imminent to start a renewal.
