Common mistakes

  • Forgetting inclusive vs. exclusive counting. "Days between" usually means the gap, not counting either endpoint — add 1 if you need both dates included in the total.
  • Assuming a month is always 30 days. Real calendar months vary from 28 to 31 days, so day counts across months aren't a simple multiplication.
  • Forgetting leap years. A range spanning February 29 in a leap year has one more day than the same date range in a non-leap year.
