What this calculator does
This contract end date calculator finds when a fixed-term contract ends. Fixed-term contracts run for a defined length of time from a set start date, and this tool adds your contract duration — in days, weeks, or months — to the start date, treating the start date as day one, to give you the precise final day of the contract.
Worked example
A contract starts on March 1, 2026 for a duration of 6 months. Since the start date counts as day one, the contract runs through August 31, 2026, the day before the 6-month anniversary of March 1.
Common mistakes
- Off-by-one end dates. A 12-month contract starting January 1 ends December 31, not January 1 of the following year — that date is the start of year two, not the last day of year one.
- Mixing up weeks and months. "6 months" and "26 weeks" are close but not identical — months vary in length while weeks are always 7 days.
- Missing notice-to-terminate windows. Some fixed-term contracts require a writtennotice period before the end date if either party wants to avoid automatic renewal — check separately from this calculation.
