What this calculator does
This calculator counts weekdays (Monday–Friday) between two dates, then subtracts any known school holidays or breaks you specify, giving an estimate of actual instructional days in a range — useful for parents, students, and teachers planning around a school calendar.
Worked example
Between September 8, 2026 and December 18, 2026, there are74 weekdays. Subtracting 6 holiday weekdays (for a Thanksgiving break) leaves 68 school days.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting to check the school calendar for breaks. Weekday counts alone overstate actual instructional days whenever a holiday or break falls within the range.
- Double-counting a holiday that falls on a weekend. Only count holiday days that fall on a weekday, since weekends are already excluded from the base count.
- Assuming every district has the same breaks. School calendars vary significantly even within the same state or country — always check your specific school's calendar.
