What this calculator does
This tool finds the exact date of common U.S. holidays for any year, handling both fixed-date holidays and "floating" holidays defined by a weekday rule, like "the 4th Thursday of November" for Thanksgiving.
Worked example
Thanksgiving in 2026 falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026 — the 4th Thursday of November that year.
Common mistakes
- Assuming a floating holiday falls on the same date every year. Rule-based holidays shift within a roughly week-long range depending on how the calendar lands.
- Mixing up Easter's date range. Easter can fall anywhere from late March to late April, following a lunar-based formula rather than a fixed weekday rule.
- Assuming federal observance always matches the actual date. When a fixed-date federal holiday falls on a weekend, the observed day off is often shifted to the nearest weekday.
