Business Days Calculator

Count workdays between two dates, or add workdays to a date.

Business days

What this calculator does

This tool has two modes: count the number of business days (Monday–Friday) between two dates, or add a number of business days to a start date to find the resulting workday. It's commonly used for shipping estimates, payment clearing times, and legal or HR deadlines defined in workdays.

Worked example

Between Monday, June 1, 2026 and Friday, June 12, 2026 (both dates included), there are 10 business days, since the weekend in between is excluded. Adding 10 business days to June 1 (not counting June 1 itself) lands on Monday, June 15, 2026.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting public holidays. This calculator only excludes weekends — a holiday falling on a weekday will still be counted as a business day here, so adjust manually if needed.
  • Confusing calendar days with business days. "5 business days" is typically more than a calendar week when a weekend falls in between.
  • Counting the start date itself. When adding business days, the start date doesn't count as day one — counting begins the next day.

Frequently asked questions

Does this calculator exclude public holidays?+

No — it excludes weekends (Saturday and Sunday) only, since public holidays vary widely by country, region, and industry. Subtract holidays manually if your calculation needs to account for them.

What counts as a business day in this online calculator?+

Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday are excluded from the count in both modes of this calculator.

When adding business days, is the start date counted?+

No — we start counting from the day after your start date. So adding 1 business day to a Monday gives Tuesday (or the next weekday if a holiday falls in between, which this tool doesn't track).

Why would I need business days instead of calendar days?+

Many legal, shipping, and financial deadlines are defined in business days specifically — for example, "funds clear in 3 business days" — so counting calendar days including weekends would give the wrong deadline.
